Respect Thai Culture When You Teach Here

Thailand is a very popular location for teaching English and TEFL courses but you should pay good attention to the local concerns. English teachers are respected members of the society and your dressing sense should reflect that. You should dress in formal shirts and pants or, for female, you should have a long skirt or trousers to go with your shirt or blouse. This is the dress Thai people expect you to wear during your interviews and when you are working. T-shirts or Half sleeve shirts will not influence the potential employers or the students. It gets very hot so it is advisable that you stick to light cotton materials. Show that you care about their culture and this respect will be reciprocated. As it is the case with many Asian countries, you need to carry grace and being rude or impolite will simply make you unwanted.

The whole process of completing TEFL courses in Thailand and accepting the TEFL jobs in Thailand depends upon how long you want to stay in Thailand and your visa process will be affected by the same. You can get your TEFL course done with a tourist or student visa. However, teaching TEFL courses in Thailand requires a non-B visa which is issued for 12 months, generally. You will also need a teacher’s license. The employer will help you with both the visa and the license. In order to get these jobs, however, you need to complete your TEFL course in Thailand or arrive already armed with a TEFL certificate.
